New Tank Setup

6 February, 2008 (00:39) | Aquarium | By: Chris

I’ve been meaning to start this for a while…

Over the last few weeks I’ve been planning the strip down & re-setup of my tank from a very neglected state. The tank in question is an older style Juwel Rio 240. The lighting went last year some time and needed replacing so I decided to go mad and do the following for a high tech planted tank:

  • Replace the internal filter with an external TetraTec EX1200
  • Replace the lighting with an Arcadia T5 Luminaire – should be enough for > 3W/gal
  • Convert the old JBL CO2 system to run on a fire extinguisher
  • Replace the JBL diffuser/reactor with a Rhinox ceramic diffuser
  • Change the substrate from a mix of flourite & Eco-Complete to play sand over Tropica Plant Substrate
  • Mix my own fertilizers

So on to some pictures…

Tank cleaned out & ready for the off. Note the Juwel filter that would normally be in the right-hand corner has been removed. Black background has been added using vaseline secured with double-sided tape at the edges.

Tropica substrate added. The blue tape is there to give me some rough levels for where the sand is to end up.
